Spine with scoliosis, showing the aorta following its curvature
The preparation is the spinal column with the skull base, portions of the ribs, the pelvis and part of the manubrium sterni, and the aorta injected with wax
From an adult male
There is a sinistroconcave scoliosis with the maximum of curvature at the ninth thoracic vertebra and a dextroconcave thoracicolumbar scoliosis with the maximum of curvature at the second lumbar vertebra. At the maximum of the thoracic curvature the left ribs lie close together and their surfaces posterior to their angles are deformed from mutual proximity. The affected vertebral centra are more or less wedge-shaped and at the maximum of the curvature their contiguous margins are lipped and irregular.
The aorta conforms to the scoliotic curvature.
