Mouth with squamous carcinoma
GC.7186
Right half of the tongue and of the body of the mandible, showing carcinoma of the floor of the mouth.
From a male gardener aged 67 years, a heavy smoker and of intemperate habits. Three weeks ago in consequence of pain in the gums, teeth and tongue, especially on the right side, he had several teeth removed. Death occurred from septic pneumonia on the tenth day after operation.
A carcinomatous ulcer replaces the mucosa from the right canine tooth to the right glossopalatine arch and extends on to the gum where it incorporates the periosteum. It involves the right edge and inferior surface of the tongue. Microscopic examination shows the structure of a squamous-cell carcinoma.
