The aorta and common iliac arteries, showing an aneurysm proximal to the aortic bifurcation
GC.6568
The aorta and common iliac arteries, showing an aneurysm proximal to the aortic bifurcation.
From an adult, the subject of acquired syphilis.
The entire intima of the aorta shows syphilitic endarteritis (inflammation of the lining of an artery) associated with some atheroma (accumulation of degenerative material in the arterial walls). The vessel wall is thickened and the surface of its lumen patchy and irregular. At its termination the abdominal aorta is distended to form a saccular aneurysm which is filled with laminated blood clot.
