- GC.10923-1
- Wax cast of intussuscption of the caecum, ascending colon (GC.10923) Caecum and ascending colon laid open with the terminal portion of the ileum, showing intussusception. From an adult female in whom following severe spasmodic abdominal pain with intestinal obstruction the abdomen became swollen, the vomiting became faecal, the features pinched and the pulse weak, frequent and intermittent. On post mortem examination the small intestine (12.(2)..1.7.) was distended and there was general peritonitis. The intussusceptum was dark (12.(2).1.8.) and its apex sloughing. The ileum appears to have passed through the colic valve which has then become slightly invaginated, the invagination carrying the adjacent portion of the caecum and the vermiform process. The intussusceptum measures some 140 mm. in length, occupies the caecum and ascending colon and shows oedematous and swollen ileal plicae circulares.
