Rectum, showing papillary adenoma
GC.10080
Rectum, showing papillary adenoma, from a female aged 65.
The tumour, which measures 5 cm in its longest axis, projects into the lumen of the rectum, to which it is attached by a short broad pedicle. Its surface is lobulated or gyrate and presents small superficial ulcerations. It is of soft consistency. Microscopically the tumour presents the characters of a papillary adenoma. It is composed of filiform branching strands of delicate fibro vascular tissue surmounted by a single layer of columnar mucus secreting cells of intestinal type.
