- Ileum showing Tuberculosis
- GC.13147
- Histological Slides x 2 Ileum, which is the third part of the small intestine, showing tuberculosis. The specimen shows externally the diffuse congestion of the peritoneum which is thickened and in the vicinity of the strictures studded with tubercles. From the internal aspect the gross stricture formation can be observed. Proximally and between the strictures, the bowel is distended and there is some thickening of the muscle wall. On both sides of each of the strictures the mucosa shows a granular ulceration. There is tuberculous infection, with numerous follicles (some very large) in all layers of the wall- and a generalised lymphocytic cell infiltration, with marked oedema. The serosa is infected, with great vascularity and oedema.
