- Finger following amputation The preparation is the proximal phalanx of an adult finger, capped by the remains of the base of the middle phalanx, following amputation. The base of the middle phalanx is irregular in outline but its articular surface retains its original shape. Distally the cancellous bone of the phalangeal base has been covered with compact bone.
