Loop of Ileum showing peritoneal metastases of lipo-sarcoma.
From a male aged 40 years. Three months previously a retroperitoneal lipoma weighing 18 Ibs. 6 ozs. had been removed. Death occurred 12 days after a partial removal of a recurrent mass at the original site. At post mortem wide-spread nodules of lipo-sarcoma were found in the retroperitoneal tissues and in the peritoneal cavity (Vide 19. TAA. 9 (1).
The loop of ileum and its mesentery are studded with yellowish nodules varying in size from 1 mm. to 25 mm. in diameter. The serous coat is very congested and covered with flakes of coagulated lymph due to a terminal peritonitis.
