- A polypus from the rectum
- GC.6416
- A polypus from the rectum, from a male aged just under 3 years. Occasionally the projection of a tumour at the anus was seen; during protrusion the thin pedicle was ligatured and the polypus removed. The tumour is ovoid, flattened, measures 3 cm in its longest diameter and is suspended from one margin by a narrow pedicle 1 cm in length. It is deeply congested from compression of its pedicle. Microscopic examination shows rectal gland elements cut transversely and scattered throughout an extremely vascular granulation tissue. With the maintenance of glandular character there is some irregularity of contour of the cells with hyperchromatosis. The supporting stroma is permeated with blood and blood capillaries.
