GC.8332
Abdominal aorta with the iliac vessels, laid open from behind, showing a saccular aneurysm.
From an adult male the subject of extensive atheroma of the aorta. This is when the walls of the arteries degenerate as a result of the build up of fatty deposits and scar tissue.
The terminal portion of the aorta for some 9.5 cm is distended into a spherical sac whose walls show extensive atheromatous infiltration. The aneurysm itself was filled with blood-clot which was to a large extent, especially peripherally, decolourized and arranged in laminae. The aorta just proximal to the aneurysm shows slight dilatation while each of the common iliac arteries forms a definite saccular aneurysm.
