Right scapula with fracture
GC.5526
The right scapula showing a fracture of the body, from a sailor who fell from the masthead of a small vessel on to the deck.
The fracture is cruciate, the horizontal limb passing from the root of the spinous process to the axillary border just inferior to the glenoid cavity, the vertical limb passing superiorly through the centre of the supraspinatous fossa and inferiorly for some way along the centre of the infraspinatous fossa. The crescentic shape of the vertebral border of the scapula makes the transverse diameter of the infraspinatous fossa unusually narrow. There is a congenitally ununited acromion epiphysis.
