- A full set of aspirator equipment with a glass bottle vacuum chamber, a rubber tube, and a valve. An aspirator is a suction machine used to remove bodily fluids and gas from a patient's body, especially the pleural space. It was usually designed to be portable. The force employed is atmospheric pressure in vacume form, assisted in some cases by the nature contractile power of the inclosing wall. Aspirators often consist of a needle or canula having an opening in its distal extremity, but it is missing. This type of aspirator which uses piston pump are called potain's type.
