- 10D-Aseptic 20 day catgut suture preserved in alcohol in a glass phial, made by Merson. Catgut was sometimes made from the submucous layer of sheep's intestine and used for sutures as it was broken down by the body over time and did not have the adverse affects of iron or copper wire sutures such as oxidisation. It was guaranteed to last twenty days in muscle.
