- Cigarette holder belonging to Sir Morell Mackenzie (1837-1892). Enscribed with Morell Mackenzie on the silver Eldest son of a surgeon. Born at Leytonstone on 7 July 1837. In 1859 he visited Czernak at Pesth and learnt from him the use of the laryngoscope. The Jacksonian Prize of the Royal College of Surgeons was awarded to him in 1863 for an essay "On the Pathology and Treatment of Diseases of the Larynx". He was the first Englishman who became expert in operations on the larynx and adjacent parts and his acknowledged eminence in this capacity led to his being called upon in 1887 to attend the Crown Prince of Germany at Berlin, when he was attacked by cancer in the throat. The Crown Prince became the Emperor Frederick III.
