- Periosteal Sarcoma of the femur
- GC.5220
- An adult right femur showing a periosteal sarcoma. From a male age 49 whose only previous illness was "rheumatism” at the age of 18 years. Swelling began below the right knee a year previous to operation. Three months later severe pain was experienced above the knee and swelling appeared there but as he was a florid man, stouter than usual, the enlargement was not at first very obvious. Disarticulation at the hip was performed and he made a good recovery and was well and working four years later. The distal third of the diaphysis is encased in a massive subglobular, somewhat lobulated tumour which does not involve the knee joint and at whose proximal limit the femoral diaphysis is normal.
