Vermiform process. Ileocolic segment of an intestine, showing deformity of the From a female aged 55 years who complained of dyspepsia, anorexia and loss of weight. The right fornix was tender on vaginal examination. The vermiform process, with a somewhat sinuous surface, forms a thin-walled sac some 95 mm. in length and 153 mm. in maximum circumference. It is smooth, semitranslucent and shows thin ramifying blood vessels extending from its mesentery. The content is entirely mucinous. Microscopic examination shows the wall of the mucocele lined by cells of fibroblast and giant cell type, the fibroblasts growing inwards as in reparative organization. No epithelial elements are apparent and the wall consists of muscularis and contains remains of lymphoid follicles.
