- A Trocar is a sharply pointed instrument, usually with a three-sided point. A trocar may be used within a cannula, a hollow tube, designed to be inserted into a vein, artery, bone marrow or body cavity. If it is a fenestrated trocar it means that it creates a hole in a membrane as it is inserted. This trocar could possibly have been used on the spine in a thoracic procedure. No Markings
