- Hob And Stage Doctor. Wouldcut, probably by William Davidson (1781-1858). Early nineteenth-century. A mountebank is extracting maxillary central incisor tooth for a rustic on an improvided stage. The hob, standing beside them, is endevouring by his clowning to distract attention from a painful operation. The reaction of the crowd is apprehension mixed with mirth. Printed and published by W.
