Portion of the ileum, showing injury due to constriction
GC.7857
Portion of the ileum, showing injury due to constriction.
Removed by operation from an adult the subject of a strangulated hernia.
The transition from the healthy to the strangulated portion of the bowel is abrupt and marked by a distinct annular constriction. The proximal bowel is distended and slightly injected, the distal part is collapsed and pale. The strangulated portion is dark purple and distended and in its mesenteric attachment the blood-vessels appear thrombosed.
