Abdominal aorta with embolic thrombus
The specimen shows the abdominal aorta and both common iliac arteries. the aorta has been opened along its posterior aspect and shows atherosclerotic occlusion with consecutive thrombous both proximal and distal to the occlusion. The iliac vessels also show atherosclerotic changes with oclusion of the right internal iliac by atheroma and with clot in the other iliac vessels.
This is an example of the Leriche syndrome which has spread to involve the renal arteries.
