Dentures, upper & lower, constructed by A.S. Young, Glasgow
HC.J.11.X.18
Dentures, upper & lower. Mid eighteenth-century.
Dentures on gold bases fitted with mineral. The maxillary molars are crudely fashioned from the osteo-dentine of the walrus. This set had obviously been inserted unduly soon after the extraction of the natural teeth. Constructed in 1851 by A.S. Young, Glasgow, and repaired in 1852. At one time, it was more or less customary for practitioners to punch their initials and year of construction on the metal bases of dentures as in this case.
