- Blunt hook, steel instrument with ebony handle. Used when the child presents itself in the breech position and the pains are not sufficient for effecting its delivery. The hook would be carefully fixed in the groin of the child, with labour continuting by aid of the hook instrument gently pulling the child out. Stamped into the steel is 'Simpson, Edinburgh'.
