Surgical knife

Surgical knife and letter, dated 1913. The knife is reputed to be 'Lizar's favourite weapon', formally the property of John Milne Fothergill (1880) . The knife blade and handle are formed from a single piece of metal [steel] tapering from the widest point at the end of the handle to the tip of the knife now broken [missing the last 2 – 3 mm] . There is a single cutting edge, with an obvious sharpening pattern, and parallel groves on the handle could have been intended either to increase grip of acting as a rasp? One side of the handle is stamped with the name ‘LIZARS’ the other with ‘YOUNG’.
