- Der Zahnarzt. Coloured lithograph, after the oil by Gerrit Dou (1613-75). Artist and date unknown. The operator proudly displays a recently extracted tooth while the hapless patient bleeds profusely. Various items can be seen in the foreground including a bleeding bowl, instrument box and bottle. A stuffed crocodile hangs in the background as a symbol of science.
