- Pelvis, with the fourth and fifth lumbar vertebrae, showing a fracture of the left ilium. From a male aged 42 years killed by fracture of the skull from falling into a ship’s hold. He probably struck his left iliac crest. on some projection during his fall. From just distal to the anterior inferior iliac spinous process a fracture ascends to the anterior fourth of the iliac crest. From the middle of this fracture a transverse fissure passes across the anterior two thirds of the iliac fossa and then ascends to the iliac crest at the limit of its posterior fourth. The portion of ilium thus separated is comminuted. Fro the dorsal termination of the transverse fracture a fissure passes posteriorly to the posterior border of the iliac tuberosity a little above the posterior superior spine. This is a fracture of the iliac crest without involvement of the pelvic ring, resulting from a direct injury.
