- Apple Scoop made of hippopotamus ivory. Nineteenth century. The marrow has been hollowed out and the natural curve of the bone used as a spoon to scrape off portions of apple where dentures could not be afforded due to their expense. This example unscrews to fit inside the handle, increasing portability.
