- Apple Scoop. Nineteenth century made from the metatarsus of a young sheep. Apple scoops were tools common in apple-growing districts such as Somerset, Devonshire and Herefordshire to allow individuals with few or no teeth to enjoy apples. The scoop was used to scrape of small portions of fruit. The bone tapers towards the scoop end.
