Tuberculosis of the epididymis
GC.8636
Tuberculosis of the epididymis. Tuberculosis is a bacterial infection which is primarily associated with the lungs, but which can affect any part of the body
The preparation is half of a vertical section of a right testis with part of the spermatic cord
From a 29 year old male farm-labourer. Following an alleged injury five months previously, he had experienced occasional pain in the right testis; shortly after he noticed a little swelling, which increased in size till the superior extremity became attached to the scrotum. Examination showed the left epididymis (GC.8636-1) similarly affected but to a less degree.
The head and tail of the epididymis are enlarged and on section show avascular areas undergoing caseation. In the posterior margin at the body of the epididymis and in the cord around the ductus deferens are small nodules of caseation. The cavity of the tunica vaginalis is obliterated and at both extremities the testis is flattened by the swollen epididymis.
