- Septic inflammation of the middle ear with a cerebellar abscess The preparation is a left section of the skull, including the temporal bone, with the meninges and part of the cerebellum A superficial segment has been raised from the lateral surface of the mastoid process and exposes an inflamed mastoid air-sinus. The styloid process and tympanic part of the mandibular fossa have been removed by dissection. The cerebellum contains a considerable cavity anterior to which its substance seems consolidated.
