Extending superiorly from the external acoustic meatus an irregular superficial sequestrum passes for some 25 mm. along the temporal squama. It is well demarcated by granulations. On the anterior surface of the petrous bone a large circular perforation through the roof of the middle ear corresponds with a small opening in the dura mater, whence arose the septic leptomeningitis.
