BONES, facial, nose Nose, Portion of the facial bones of an adult between bilateral parasagittal sections, showing membranous areas in the septum of the
The left nasal bone is intact, but the right section has passed
through the right nasal bone. The cartilage of the septum shows
numerous dots of calcification towards the anterior part of its superior margin. The anterior border of the vomer is concave and somewhat frayed. Anterosuperiorly the lamina perpendicularis of the ethmoidal bone is ossified, but the postero-inferior half is entirely membranous, though separated from the cartilage of the septum by a narrow strip of bone. Anterior to this membranous area several small areas of decalcification have replaced the bone of the lamina perpendicularis by fibrous tissue. The rostrum of the sphenoidal bone is unaffected and the sphenoidal air-sinus appears on section as a shallow tray.
