Three-tray brass-bound mahogany instrument case (Extraction) for:
24 forceps (5 missing)
9 keys
4 detached ivory handles for keys
4 elevators with fixed ivory handles
The fitted base contains 35 claws (nubered)
In a separate conpartment with a lid theere are 32 protective rubbers, all hardened with age. The 19 round ones encircled the bolsters of keys and the others were places inside the blades of certain forceps. Their purpose was the minimise the risk of lacerating the gingival tissues.
