Vermiform process, myxoma peritonei
GC.6571
Wet specimen.
Vermiform process showing myxoma peritonei. From a female aged 63 years who had progressive swelling of the abdomen during six and occasional abdominal pain during three months. On coeliotomy the abdomen was found filled with mucinous material which had originated from rupture of one of bilateral ovarian cysts. (J. Haig Ferguson. Trans. Edinburgh Obstetrics Society 1925. xlv.18)
The vermiform process is embedded in pseudomyxomatous tissue which on microscopic examination is shown to be transplantation metastasis with no evidence of malignancy.
