- Wet specimen. A portion of the rectum, laid open, showing carcinoma from an adult A warty, nodular tumour arising from a base some 25 mm. in diameter, has invaginated a portion of the wall of the rectum to form a pedicle some 20 mm in length. The tumour forms a subglobular mass, well defined in most of its periphery and somewhat necrotic on its surface. There its margin is less well defined, the mucosa shows an irregular papillary hypertrophy. Microscopic examination shows the structure of an adenocarcinoma.
