The child had a history of blood in the stools and episodes of central abdominal pain. After admission to hospital, on investigation, the pain became acute and he was operated on immediately.
The specimen shows an acute perforation. Note how the edges are sharply demarcated. In the sectioned specimen note how the ulcer has penetrated and how the wall of the diverticulum has thickened.
The specimen be viewed from the side to see the site of the perforation.
